Cock-a-doodle-do

The Hawaiian alphabet, like a dodgy keyboard, has just 17 letters.

Man is it tough to remember place names here!

Anyhow, our day started with a huge cock waking Anne. There are wild hens here and the rooster kicked off at 5am.

Later in the evening we had 5 of them in a tree next to our cottage. In a tree. Hens?

We walked to the main Inn for breakfast and walked past either Butter Avocado or Passionfruit trees. We’ll grab one tomorrow and get back with a final decision.

Breakfast was a co-mingling opp. Not usually our thing but we did OK talking to Canadians, Germans and even Floridians.

Our first stop today was at the Hulihe’e Palace. Nice enough and close to a sea-wall full of crabs and a garden of banana trees.

Next we hit Kahalu’u Beach. Kids snorkelling … I may try this tomorrow.

But we went wading on the volcanic rock and hit upon a turtle.

Next we headed for Napo’opo’o and Pu’uhonua o H┼Źnaunau.

They roll off the tongue.

More cute fish and volcanic rocks.

Anne hugged this carving. I hope it’s not desecration!

Strangely in every selfie I took today I had a double chin.

I need to work on my pose.

By now it was time for a late lunch and then we came home.

When you’ve a verandah like this you want to use it.

Before dinner we had round 2 of the rooster wars.

For dinner we hit a place by the ocean. No cake, but good cocktails as a lightning storm kicked off.

Perfect first day in paradise!
